Push and Pull Experiments

My science group has been learning about forces.  We discussed that pushes and pulls are both forces.  Then, we investigated how friction impacts the amount of force needed to move an object.  The children tested pushes and pulls on the carpet, the tables, and the sidewalk.  They know that scientists record their observations and share their findings with others, so we created a VoiceThread of our digital pictures and recorded captions telling our results.  Check it out:

We will add to this VoiceThread all semester, as all of the 2nd and 3rd graders rotate through my science class.  If your child would like to record more comments at home, please email me at mkrank@pky.ufl.edu, and I can send you the log-in information.  If you aren't able to record voices on your home computer, children can also write text comments.

Welcome 2011-2012 2nd Gators!

I am so excited to have these sweet, smiling faces filling my classroom this year!
